The driver of the vehicle who was allegedly involved in an accident at Cuvu Top, Sigatoka, last Saturday will be questioned soon. Police Spokesperson Ana Naisoro said: “The driver of the vehicle that went off road at Cuvu top presented himself at the Nadi Hospital late last night. “He was treated and discharged and will be questioned soon. Investigations continue.”

The accident took place after the vehicle allegedly failed to negotiate a left-turn and the vehicle veered off the road.

The Fiji Police Force is also advising the public to be more responsible road users during this festive season. This comes after increasing concerns shown by the Traffic Department monthly trend highlighting that from 2006 to 2016 speeding continued to be the leading cause of road deaths on Fiji’s roads. Director Traffic Senior Superintendent of Police Mahesh Mishra said: “The Fiji Police Force is hoping people will plan their activities accordingly to avoid being caught in situations that can result in death. “The most number of road deaths are usually recorded between the months of October to January when festivities are at its peak.

“We are also reiterating the role pedestrians have in road safety as already this year 10 causes of fatal accidents have been attributed to pedestrians being at fault.”

He said motorists, pedestrians and the Police needed to work together to witness an enjoyable fes- tive season free of road accidents and fatalities.

Police are appealing to the public regarding the hit-and-run case where the body of a 30-year-old mother was found lying on the road near Volivoli last month. The people living around that area are requested to provide any information to the Police that may lead to the arrest of a suspect by calling Crime Stoppers on 919.
