Sheik Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan said the United Arab Emirates could also consider offering some scholarships to Fijian students to study in the Emirates
President Major- General ( Ret’d) Jioji Konrote returns to the country today after paying a courtesy call on the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, His Highness Sheik Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who is also the Deputy Supreme Commander of the United Arab Emirates armed forces over the weekend. Both the President and the Crown Prince agreed to strengthen diplomatic and bilateral relations between Fiji and the United Arab Emirates. The Crown Prince was particularly interested in the business, education, energy and employment sectors. He assured the President that he will deploy a business delegation to Fiji to explore investment opportunities, with a focus on the tourism industry. President Konrote paid the courtesy call after he completed his Middle East tour to Fiji’s peacekeeping troops and diplomatic missions and a courtesy call on president Salva Kiir Mayardit of South Sudan. The Crown Prince asked for more information on the rebuilding programme for schools damaged by Tropical Cyclone Winston. Close to two hundred Fijians now work in the UAE with the majority in the aviation industry as pilots, flight and ground crew. An increasing number work as nurses and teachers.
