Ba Closer To Victory
‘Men in Black’ need a win to secure the Vodafone Premier League title.
The Ba football side are edging closer to winning the Vodafone Premier League title after beating Nadi 3- 0 in a somewhat lacklustre affair at Govind Park yesterday. With only two games remaining against Dreketi and Labasa, the ‘Men in Black’ would need at least a win or hope Lautoka drops a game for them to snatch the title. The dull and humid afternoon did little to spark the game as opposed to the brilliant showdown Ba had with Lautoka on Tuesday. However, in both games Ba’s back three – Manasa Nawaikula, Samuela Kautoga and Laisenia Raura Tiwa is the powerbase of their strength.
Tiwa’s style of play brings back memories of the great Waisea Nai- covu, who commandeered Ba’s play from centre back during the 1970s.
What happened: Maciu Dunadamu’s tireless hunt for goals paid off in the 32nd minute when Nadi goalkeeper, Samuela Tamanisau, failed to stop a shot at goal. Dunadamu was on hand to send net to give Ba the 1-0 lead at the break. In the 66th minute, Saula Waqa slotted in a penalty after one of Nadi’s players in the defensive wall against a free kick handled the ball inside the box. With the 2-0 lead, Ba started to string their passes together. Nadi on the other hand could not capitalise on the few inroads they made into Ba’s territory and this is proving to be their downfall considering the recent spate of losses. In the 81st minute, Waqa grabbed his second after being set up by nip
Big play: Perhaps Tiwa’s cool control of Ba’s play with his distribution of balls proved the difference.
Comments: Ba coach Imdad Ali: “We played well but the humid condition was a major factor in both teams play.” Nadi team manager Kamlesh Sami: “We need more game time and our younger players should get better.” Edited by Naisa Koroi
