Suva Market vendor has predicted a rise in coconut price at the market next month.

Currently Mr Rosan Ali is getting his coconut supplies from Kadavu at $100 a bag.

He said he was basing his prediction from the fact that business people were also buying coconuts for their own products.

“The buy in thousands and vendors cannot compete with them,” he said. Mr Ali said they were buying from the same source. To counter the business people Mr Ali had advised the vendors to buy and stock them for next month where coconuts would be needed nearly in every homes.

He said the rise in price was due to the impact of cyclone Winston to coconut trees in affected islands. Mr Ali said that was part of life and for him he had coped. He was also selling other vegetables and food crops. For his coconuts he was selling one for $1.50 and $5 for a heap with three nuts.

He has advised his customers to be ready for the increase in price in December.

Some of his customers were opting to buy tinned lolo but many preferred to have coconut milk from fresh coconuts. He said his next order would arrive from Kadavu next week. When asked about life at the market he said it was very lively as people walked in an out every hour.

His work at the market starts when the market opened and stops when it’s closed in the afternoon.
