Mrs Raj also lamented the loss of their newly pur­chased fur­ni­ture and ap­pli­ances in prepa­ra­tion for the son’s wed­ding. “We were all very busy pre­par­ing for his wed­ding. It’s is just so un­for­tu­nate to have had such tragedy at a time when we were all in a mood of joy and cel­e­bra­tion.” She said she could only save her daugh­ter-in-law’s wed­ding sa­ree and jew­ellery. “I only knew that I had to save that, oth­er­wise we would have noth­ing left for the wed­ding. We lost our clothes and now our fam­ily had de­cided to help us get through the wed­ding. “My hus­band and I are blessed with their sup­port.”

The fire de­stroyed their house and two other flats at about 2am on Thurs­day. Po­lice spokesper­son Ana Naisoro has con­firmed the in­ci­dent. She said in­ves­ti­ga­tions con­tinue. Edited by Jonathan Bryce
