Pago Pago: American Samoa’s Elections Office says it has not received any requests for a recount or challenges as of Friday.

The results of last Tuesday’s voting will remain unofficial until the seven day deadline for any challenges is up.

Chief elections officer Uiagalelei Dr Lealofi Uiagalelei said they had not received a request for a recount and there have not been any challenges.

In District No 8, Fagatogo, the incumbent representative Maugaoalii Leapai Sipa Anoai had 223 ballots, one vote behind the unofficial winner Vailiuama Steve Leasiolagi. RNZI correspondent said this was not the first time that the two candidates ended up with a one vote difference. In a previous election the two tied and were headed for a straw vote when one conceded the election to the other. RNZI
