True beauty lies in true education. These were the words of Rakesh Goundar when his son, Pritesh Goundar, was named Dux of Qawa Primary School Dux yesterday. “We are not well off, I am a seasonal worker at the Fiji Sugar Corporation mill here in Labasa and my wife stays home. Seeing our children excel in school is one of our main goals in life,” Mr Goundar said. “We are very proud of his achievement.”

Because of their son’s achievement, for the past eight years, Mr and Mrs Goundar have been attending the prizegiving ceremony at Qawa Primary School since Pritesh joined Year One. Pritesh said he was happy that his hard work had paid off. “I would like to thank God for the knowledge, my parents for always supporting and my teachers for teaching me,” the Year Eight student said. “I look forward to secondary school and I plan to work hard so I continue to make my parents happy.” An aspiring accountant, Pritesh also took home four other awards – scoring the highest in Hindi, social science, healthy living and English. He plans to join All Saints Secondary School next year. Edited by Naisa Koroi
