Fijian teams in for a tough battle
Fijian Black and Fijian White will feature in the Central Zonal Beach Volleyball Championship men’s semi-finals at the Smugglers Cove Resort in Nadi this morning.
Fijian Black consisting of Malai Tuifagalele and Raymond Stoddart Jnr take on Australia in the opening clash. In the second semi-final Fijian White combination of Qilu Elliot and Inia Korowale face Moha Mea captained-PNG side in what is dubbed to be a thriller.
Fiji coach Waisake Raratabu is confident despite the fact they are going against the two top teams in Oceania.
He added that this will be a great test for his players before the Oceania showdown that starts tomorrow. “The boys are in good form setting the platform well and showing what they have learnt over the one-month period in camp,” the former national rep said.
“It is good to see that two of the teams have qualified to the semi-finals and it will be a great showdown against Australia and PNG respectively.” Tournament commissioner James Summer said the competition is getting intense. He added that he was overwhelmed with the way the Fijian teams have played in the tournament. The men’s final of the Eastern Zone sees New Zealand take on Cook Islands.
In the women’s final Australia face Vanuatu while in the playoff Fijian White (Claire Delai/ Iliseva Ratudina) take on PNG.
The playoff semi-final loser 1 and loser semi-final 2 battle will be at 11am.
