The eight-year-old who is said to have drowned while on a swimming trip with friends in the Nakelo River last Wednesday. His body was found the next day. Savenaca was laid to rest yesterday. His uncle, Sikeli Ravula, 32, said: “We did not expect this to happen. It is really sad but we believe that God will give us peace.” Mr Ravula said their family was not financially prepared for the funeral, but they thanked the Lord and family members for their support to give a proper burial for Savenaca.
“As far as I know, this is the second time someone died in this river,” he said. Mr Ravula said the death of Savenaca had taught them and other villagers a valuable lesson. “The villagers are now very careful with their children because we have all learnt a big lesson and that is the need to be alert at all times,” he said.
