Lautoka Ath­letes Re­warded

Eleven sugar city ath­letes were re­warded for their ef­fort dur­ing the Sorop­ti­mist In­ter­na­tional (SI) Lautoka Sports Awards 2016 at Jasper Wil­liams High School on Wed­nes­day.

The ath­letes, who par­tic­i­pated in dif­fer­ent sports cat­e­gories, re­ceived cash, tro­phy, cer­tifi­cate and a medal each.

Chief guest and Lautoka soc­cer team cap­tain Peni Finau urged ath­letes to make a mark in what­ever sport they par­tic­i­pate in. “I hope you will keep sports as part of your lives as you grow older,” he said. “The awards night mainly recog­nises each and ev­ery one of you as am­bas­sadors of Fiji through sports.” Finau con­grat­u­lated the awardees for ac­com­plish­ing their goals. “Those who have been nom­i­nated, I con­grat­u­late you,” he said. “Whether or not you’re a win­ner, it is your abil­ity that com­mands the re­spect.” Mean­while the 2016 Ocea­nia Wa­ter Group Fiji sportswoman award went to Lav­ina Lagi of Drasa Av­enue Pri­mary while the sports­man award went to Te­vita Ta­mani Ju­nior of Lautoka Pri­mary. The event was spon­sored by the Ocea­nia Wa­ter Group Fiji.
