Fijian Pilots Host Teams
The Vodafone Fijian 7s team were guest of the Fijian community in Dubai yesterday. Fijian pilots working for Emirates Airlines hosted the Osea Kolinisau-captained side and the Ana Roqica skippered Telecom Fijiana team. Today the women will play France at 9.44pm, New Zealand at 1.02am and Ireland and 3.37am tomorrow. Coach Iliesa Tanivula aims to better last year’s performance where they upset Canada 24-10 in the opening match and went on to reach the quarter-finals as pool winners. But they had to settle for seventh place on day two.
Russians Failed To Show The Russians failed to turn up for a scrimmaging session with the Vodafone Fijian 7s team yesterday.
But the team intensified their preparations with another solid workout. Acting coach Nacanieli Cawanibuka said the players had a good hit-out among themselves.
Fiji’s first match is against Canada at 7.52pm tomorrow and Wales at 11.36pm. The team’s last pool match is against Argentina at 4.48am on Saturday. Meanwhile, the team continued to be recognised for winning the gold medal at the Rio Olympics in August. The side won Esquire Awards for best team of 2016. Edited by Paula Tuvuki
