Bail granted for 12 on sedi­tion charges

Nadi Mag­is­trate Chan­dani Dias yes­ter­day granted bail to 11 men and a woman of Nadroga who were ar­rested for breach­ing their bail con­di­tions. Adi Cuvu Ga­vidi, Ratu Te­vita Khakhain­abowale, Ratu Inoke Tasere, Mos­ese Navaci, Jimi Koro­bete, Eroni Riko­riko, Pe­neasi Naqau, Ula­iasi Rabua, Alif­er­eti Naku­ni­vou, Jo­rama Rat­ulevu, Raic­ula Rokovou and Seru Ku­nalagi were ap­pre­hended on the charges of sedi­tion and granted bail un­der strict con­di­tions last year by High Court in Lautoka.

Ac­cord­ing to their bail terms, the 12 ac­cused were not to meet more than three per­sons who were not their fam­ily mem­bers, or at a fam­ily gath­er­ing. How­ever, they al­legedly breached this con­di­tion by meet­ing to­gether in Nadi on Novem­ber 6.

Mag­is­trate Dias, in her bail rul­ing said the ap­pli­cants stated that the rea­son for their gath­er­ing was to seek le­gal ad­vice and they had pleaded not guilty for breach­ing their bail con­di­tion. She said all 12 re­mained in­no­cent un­til proven guilty.

Ear­lier on the Pros­e­cu­tion had ob­jected to the bail say­ing that the 12 ac­cused had al­ready been on bail and had breached the con­di­tions. Each of the ac­cused were granted bail of a sum of $100 and a surety. Mag­is­trate Dias told them not to of­fend while on bail.
