152 cases of dengue recorded in Nadroga-Navosa

Atotal of 152 cases of dengue were recorded in the Nadroga-Navosa province so far this year.

This was revealed by Sigatoka Health Inspector Ratu Viliame Gonewai at the provincial council meeting at Nahigatoka village in Sigatoka yesterday.

“This is a big number and we need to work together,” Ratu Viliame said. From January to June they also recorded 25 cases of leptospiro­sis, eight cases of typhoid, four of tuberculos­is.

Council chairperso­n Ratu Aisea Vosailagi said: “It is very basic hygiene. We need to be advocates of following proper hygiene.”

Education

Regional senior education officer west Setareki Rika says 438 students in Early Childhood Education schools do not have their birth certificat­es. He urged parents to make sure that when their children were born they should be registered. He said some students were not attending school.

“The state is giving funds to the school but the students are not making full use of the provision for better education,” Mr Rika added.
