Menon enters pageant for what she promotes

Miss Ashika Esther Menon, 18, will be vying for recognitio­n at the 2017 Bula Festival this year. Ms Menon is in Year 13 studen at the Nadi Sangam Sadhu Kuppuswamy Memorial College (SSKMC).

“This is the first time I am taking part in the pageant but I have been in front of the crowd, during oratory and debates in schools,” Ms Menon said. “My advocacy is ‘Empowering and Educating Children on Climate Change’.”

She is the only child in her family and says that the support from her family and school have been tremendous.

“The support from my family members and school has been amazing,” Ms Menon said. “My school has been supporting me ever since I told them about my participat­ion at this year’s Bula Festival.

“My parents are also supporting me and encouragin­g me to do my best and most importantl­y to use the platform to advocate more about climate change. “2Day FM held auditions and I took part. After three days, I was called and told that I would be contesting the Bula Festival 2017 as Miss 2Day FM.”

The contestant also said that she would balance her school work with the pageant because she believed school work was important.

The 2017 Bula Festival will start on July 22 and end on July 29.
