Western Union grab and run thief es­capes in car

Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing a grab and run in­ci­dent out­side the Western Union ex­change at Damodar City in Rai­wai, Suva, yes­ter­day morn­ing. A Western Union worker was re­turn­ing from the bank to her of­fice at Level 1 in the Damodar City Com­plex when the in­ci­dent hap­pened.

A man af­ter grab­bing the bag con­tain­ing an undis­closed amount of money fled in a hy­brid ve­hi­cle parked along Gran­tham Road out­side Damodar City. Po­lice spokesper­son, Ana Naisoro has con­firmed the in­ci­dent how­ever she could not con­firm fur­ther de­tails.

A se­cu­rity of­fi­cer at the com­plex, who wished to be anony­mous, said she was pa­trolling the com­plex when she saw a young man run­ning to­wards the woman and grab­bing her bag. He then made his es­cape in a ve­hi­cle.

The se­cu­rity of­fi­cer con­firmed that the Western Union em­ployee was at the foot of the stairs op­po­site Ea­gle Boys Pizza Shop when the bag was pulled from her.

She said the man was wear­ing a black hooded jacket. The staff have been ques­tioned by the Po­lice.
