FRA In­stalls Tem­po­rary Road Humps

Fiji Roads Author­ity (FRA) has in­stalled tem­po­rary road humps in front of Vivras Plaza, Lau­cala Beach Es­tate out­side Suva to ad­dress speed­ing con­cerns.

Act­ing chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer Robert Sen said this fol­lowed the re­cent high ac­ci­dent recorded in the area. “We have in­stalled ad­vi­sory signs and new road humps which will re­duce traf­fic speeds on the road, how­ever, this is not the in­stant cure for all traf­fic is­sues,” Mr Sen said.

He said the in­stal­la­tion of in­fra­struc­ture such as speed humps was a last re­sort when all other safety mea­sures fails and com­pro­mises the safety of gen­eral pub­lic.

“Al­ter­na­tively, we need to ed­u­cate the pub­lic, es­pe­cially mo­torists about poor driver be­hav­ior, we need to cre­ate more aware­ness about road safety,” he said.

Mr Sen said they were work­ing closely with the en­force­ment agen­cies; the Fiji Po­lice Force and the Land Trans­port Author­ity (LTA) to ad­dress the num­ber of speed­ing con­cerns.

“We will have these tem­po­rary road humps placed un­til the LTA in­stalls speed cam­eras in the area.” “The FRA wishes to ad­vise mem­bers of the pub­lic es­pe­cially mo­torists to please take heed of the ad­vi­sory signs, be cau­tious and drive within the speed lim­its.”
