Life in PNG’s Mendi returning to normal, says MP

Fiji Sun - - Pacific News -

The MP for Mendi in Papua New Guinea’s Highlands says life is slowly returning to normal after recent election-related unrest. Unrest and deadly violence plagued Mendi and other parts of the Southern Highlands in the past few months. Fighting between supporters of rival candidates has now begun to settle, but tensions remain and the province’s public sector has effectively ground to a halt.

The newly elected MP Michael Nali said the unrest had been stirred by disgruntled people. “Those who have that kind of ideology have taken advantage of the situation and then created problems and all that.”
