Agriculture Ministry, Biotech Sign MoU
The Ministry of Agriculture has struck up a partnership with crop-supplier Biotech Limited in a bid to assist farmers bolster food security efforts and productivity.
As part of an agreed memorandum of understanding between the two, Biotech Limited will supply the Ministry with a variety of 3,000 tissue cultured dalo plants called Tausala-ni-Samoa.
At the signing yesterday, Minister for Agriculture, Rural and Maritime Development, National Disaster Management and Meteorological Services Inia Seruiratu said the MoU “marked the beginning of long and fruitful partnership.”
He said the benefits of the partnership entailed the availability of disease-free planting materials and high-yielding crop varieties for growers, especillay in places like Taveuni.
The partnership would also make available a large number of “uniform” planting materials, along with seeds that the Minister said would increase crop productivity.
“I am certain that our collaboration will reap maximum benefits through this win-win partnership,” Mr Seruiratu said. “More importantly, we hope to promote and create innovations that can contribute to excellence and that can replicated and shared locally for the benefit of our farmers,”
