Fam­ily thank­ful they are alive

Afam­ily lost ev­ery­thing af­ter their home burned down yes­ter­day at Kal­abu in Nas­inu.

Fam­ily mem­bers es­caped with only the clothes on their backs. They were liv­ing with ex­tended fam­ily mem­bers but in sep­a­rate flats in the fam­ily home.

Meredani Lesu, 33, said: “My fiveyear-old son had told me that he was go­ing to play.

“Af­ter few min­utes later, I couldn’t hear him so I went look­ing for him. At that time too I could smell some­thing burn­ing.

“My son later told me that he dropped a lit match stick to the floor and that was how it all started. “We are thank­ful that we are all alive,” she said.

There are more than 15 peo­ple liv­ing in the fam­ily home.

The Na­tional Fire Au­thor­ity con­firmed that three fire trucks from Nau­sori, Nas­inu and Suva were at the scene. It is con­duct­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
