PM: Another COVID19-infected patient has successfully recovered

- Voreqe Bainimarama Ramadan Mubarak!

One week into the Holy Month of Ramadan, I’d like to extend my best wishes to every Fijian celebrating this sacred occasion and express my gratitude to all the families who are respecting our public health directives through this period of prayer and reflection.

I’d like to pass a special “thank you” to the Muslim members of our Fijian family who rank among our healthcare heroes serving in our hospitals, fever clinics and mobile medical teams. Your valiant efforts –– alongside your colleagues –– are helping win Fiji’s war against the coronavirus. In doing so, you showcase the very best of the Fijian spirit. While Fijians who observe this holy month continue to fast from the early hours of the morning until sunset, this year’s Ramadan has certainly been different. But through these times, we can take comfort knowing that no matter where we pray, the power of prayer, for peace, for love and for kindness is undiminished. In fact, living out these values matters for all people, of all faiths, more than ever before.

So, even while our mosques and other houses of worship may be closed for the time being, we can still draw incredible strength from the message of love, discipline and sacrifice honoured by the Ramadan tradition. I ask that every Fijian use this month as an opportunity to reflect on how each of us can serve our nation and our fellow Fijians by helping pave the path to brighter days ahead.

The Lautoka Cane Producers Association provided meals for our frontliners at the Nadi Hospital and at Police stations and checkpoints along Nadi and Sigatoka.

The association members said the gesture was a show of solidarity for the sacrifices made by the frontliner’s during the COVID-19 pandemic,.

Association president Tazim Ali Khan said: “The frontliners have sacrificed day and night to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Police officers and the medical team are doing a great job.

“They are working hard day and night. We have recognised their effort and we are pleased to provide them with lunch.”

He also acknowledged the Government for being diligent in its response to the pandemic.

To date, only six cases remain active with the remaining 12 having recovered.

Mr Khan said they started delivering food to Police stations, to the office of District Officers and also to medical teams in hospitals.
