Sri Lanka’s min­is­ter warns of dengue virus

Sri Lanka: Sri Lanka’s Health Min­is­ter Pavithra Wan­niarachchi has warned the pub­lic against a dengue out­break due to ex­pected mon­soonal rains across the is­land coun­try.

The gov­ern­ment in­for­ma­tion de­part­ment, in a state­ment quot­ing Wan­niarachchi said that in the re­cent past there was a greater rise in dengue in­fec­tions in ur­banised and con­gested ar­eas in Sri Lanka.

Usu­ally, the most num­ber of dengue cases are re­ported mid-year from May to July dur­ing the south­west mon­soons and at the end of the year from Oc­to­ber to Jan­u­ary dur­ing the north­east mon­soons.
