65 arrested for COVID-19 response breach: Police Stats

Sixty-five people were arrested in the 24 hours ending yesterday, and the arrests made in relation to sporting activities show that warnings continue to fall on deaf ears.

In a release, Police Commission­er Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho said of the 65 arrests, 40 were made in the Southern Division for sports.

The Southern Division recorded 59 reports in total, 40 for sports and 19 for breach of curfew.

Seven people including two juveniles were arrested in Naitoniton­i, Navua as they were found playing touch rugby by a team of officers conducting mobile patrol.

In Galoa, seven men were arrested as they were playing volleyball.

In Samabula, 10 men including a 15-year-old were arrested as they were playing touch rugby along Reservoir Road.

A second report recorded in Samabula saw the arrest of 16 tertiary school students who were found playing touch rugby at the Fiji School of Nursing grounds. The Western Division recorded four reports of breach of curfew while East recorded two reports.
