New Chair for Su­gar Cane Grow­ers Fund

The Prime Min­is­ter and Min­is­ter for Su­gar In­dus­try Voreqe Bain­i­marama has ap­pointed Uday Sen as the chair­man of Su­gar Cane Grow­ers Fund (SCGF).

This is ef­fec­tive from Jan­uary 19, 2020 for two years in ac­cor­dance and pur­suant with the amend­ment of the Su­gar Cane Grow­ers Fund (Amend­ment) Act 2015.

The Prime Min­is­ter com­mended Mr Sen for his ef­forts and con­tri­bu­tions since his ap­point­ment as board mem­ber since Jan­uary 2019.

Con­tri­bu­tion to the su­gar in­dus­try

The Per­ma­nent Sec­re­tary for the Min­istry of Su­gar In­dus­try, Yo­gesh Karan said that Mr Sen brings. Wealth of ex­pe­ri­ence and com­mer­cial acu­men as a lender, shrewd busi­ness­man who comes from a su­gar cane farm­ing back­ground. His ex­per­tise and knowl­edge would as­sist in trans­for­ma­tion of the fund and the in­dus­try as a whole.

Mr Karan also thanked the out­go­ing chair­man Ariff Ali and direc­tor Pradeep Lal for putting the right plat­form, which in­cluded the ap­point­ment of the chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer, ac­quir­ing a new ICT sys­tem, im­ple­men­ta­tion of var­i­ous poli­cies and pro­cesses.

Chair­man­ship

Mr Karan said given their de­mand­ing re­spon­si­bil­i­ties, they had re­quested that oth­ers be given the op­por­tu­nity and hence “we re­spect­fully noted their de­ci­sions.”

Mr Sen thanked the Prime Min­is­ter and Mr Karan for hav­ing con­fi­dence in him for the chair­man­ship of such a pres­ti­gious in­sti­tu­tion which is the trust fund of the su­gar cane grow­ers.

He looks for­ward with the Board, Man­age­ment, Staff and in­dus­try stake­hold­ers to take Su­gar Cane Grow­ers Fund to new heights.

Mr Sen is man­ag­ing direc­tor, City Cars and Equip­ment.

He holds a Bach­e­lor of Arts De­gree ma­jor­ing in Ac­count­ing and In­for­ma­tion Sys­tems from USP; a Post-Grad­u­ate Diploma in Bank­ing from USP; a Post-Grad­u­ate Diploma in Ac­count­ing from USP and a Mas­ter of Com­merce De­gree in Ac­count­ing from USP.

He is a Mem­ber of Fiji Char­tered Ac­coun­tants, a fel­low mem­ber of CPA Aus­tralia and a fel­low of CIMA (Char­tered In­sti­tute of Man­age­ment Ac­coun­tants).

He has worked at ex­ec­u­tive level in the cor­po­rate sec­tor for over 10 years
