PM Bain­i­marama opens new Raki­raki Mar­ket

The Prime Min­is­ter Voreqe Bain­i­marama said the new Raki­raki mar­ket does more than grant vendors a se­cure night’s sleep in clean fa­cil­i­ties.

“It is a pow­er­ful plat­form for em­pow­er­ing Fi­jian women. It helps women vendors not only to start new small busi­nesses but tap into the full po­ten­tial of their ven­tures through on­site train­ing and men­tor­ing,” he said.

Raki­raki Mar­ket Vendors As­so­ci­a­tion pres­i­dent Varanis­ese Maisamoa was proud to be part of a his­toric mo­ment for Raki­raki. “This is a huge boost for the whole town. Af­ter years of wait­ing, we are happy to have the mar­ket open. “This will mo­ti­vate and boost the town’s morale. We are grate­ful to Gov­ern­ment for giv­ing Raki­raki

Here are some facts about the new Raki­raki Mar­ket:

■ $6.3 mil­lion-dol­lar fa­cil­ity;

■ 320 stalls;

■ 30 beds; and

■ am­ple wash­rooms and show­ers.

Mr Bain­i­marama held a ta­lanoa ses­sion af­ter the open­ing of the mar­ket.

Raki­raki res­i­dents high­lighted is­sues re­lated to and lease dis­putes, need for electricit­y and water, taxi and car­rier per­mits.

The Min­is­ters present were able to ad­dress the is­sues re­lat­ing to their re­spec­tive min­istries. The Min­is­ters in­cluded Premila Kumar, Faiyaz Koya, Ma­hen­dra Reddy, Parveen Bala, Ifer­eimi Waqain­a­bete, Rosy Ak­bar, Jone Usa­mate, Osea Naqamu, Inia Seruiratu and As­sis­tant Min­is­ter Veena Bhat­na­gar.
