Man who allegedly knifed his wife, step-daughter remanded

The 45-year-old delivery man alleged to have struck his wife and step-daughter with a cane knife appeared at the High Court in Suva yesterday.

Sanjay Lakhan appeared before Justice Vinsent Perera charged with two counts of act with intent to cause grievous harm. The alleged incident happened at their rented house in Kuku, Nausori, on May 19 after an argument.

Prosecutor from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutio­ns, Sheenal Swastika told the court that the case was for first call in the High Court and that the State had asked for time to file informatio­n and disclosure­s.

She also told the court that the accused’s wife was still admitted at the hospital and the State was awaiting further disclosure­s.

Justice Perera gave 21 days to the State to file the informatio­n and disclosure­s. The case was adjourned for mention to check on the same on June 26. Lakhan has been further remanded in custody.
