The Lautoka rugby team are training hard for its Skipper Cup Premiership opener against Naitasiri on July 25.

Speaking to SUNsports yesterday Maroons manager Joseph Sikuri said, they were looking forward to making their return to the major union.

“After the announcement on Sunday the team resumed training on Monday,” he said.

“We are following all the directives given by the Fiji National Sports Commission in the COVID-19 return to rugby protocol. “The boys are excited and we are looking forward to getting back onto the pitch.

“We have to be pro-active, but at the moment we’re going along with the flow in trying to adapt to these new norms.

Good start

“The changes are right across the board, from grassroots rugby, to the primary and high schools.

“It’s something that World Rugby has set for everyone so we have to be pro- active.” Sikuri said the Lautoka side was working on its fitness.

“Naitasiri is a well-drilled team so playing them at Ratu Cakobau Park will not be easy. “We need to be well-prepared for the match because it’s our first game in 2020,” he added.
