Regardless of the payment relief provided by the Water Authority of Fiji for its customers, people are still being advised to pay whatever little they can to help clear their bills.

The advice was issued by the authority’s chief executive officer, Barry Omundson, who said disconnection would begin in January 2021.

Mr Omundson said customers who are facing financial difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic should contact their Customer Service to enquire and access the payment relief system in place.

He said there are bill payment options, however, people must not forget that relief is only given until December this year.

“If people don’t pay their bills, what we did in the past is we give them a warning and soon after we would disconnect them and get them to reconnect,” Mr Omundson said.

“We are not doing that until the end of December because of COVID-19. But it doesn’t mean that people don’t pay their water bills because come January next year if you haven’t paid your water bill for that period of time we are going to ask you to pay them.”
