STABBING ACCUSED IN REMAND

-

THE 26-YEAR-OLD FARMER WHO ALLEGEDLY STABBED HIS DEFACTO PARTNER SEVERAL TIMES AFTER AN ARGUMENT WAS REMANDED ON MONDAY BY THE NADI MAGISTRATES COURT.

Ilisoni Narogo of Narewa, Nadi, appeared before Magistrate Nilmini Fernandez charged with one count of act with intent to cause grievous harm and one count of breach of domestic violence restraining order.

Police prosecutor Parmesh Chand represented the State while the accused waived his right to have a lawyer. The court heard that last weekend Narogo had stabbed the victim several times with a knife. Narogo understood the charges laid against him. Mr Chand objected to bail because it was a serious offence. Mr Chand also said the victim was in a critical condition at the Lautoka Hospital and they had not recorded her statement yet.

“If granted bail the accused is likely to interfere with the State witness and commit another offence,” Mr Chand said.

The court heard that Narogo was given 21 days to file alibi notice. He was remanded at the Natabua Corrections Facility. The case has been transferred to the High Court in Lautoka for mention on July 8.
