‘Worst signing in NRL era’

Sydney: Fox Sports NRL commentator Warren Smith has called for the Wests Tigers to rip up Joey Leilua’s contract after his atrocious high shot on Penrith fullback Dylan Edwards on Saturday night.

Leilua was sin binned for collaring Edwards off the ball in the 77th minute of the Tigers’ 19-12 loss to the Panthers, sparking an all-in brawl.

The Tigers’ centre now faces the prospect of a long time on the sidelines and Smith believes Wests should take things further after the judiciary deals out its punishment. Not only should Joey Leilua get six weeks for his high shot on Dylan Edwards, at the end of the suspension the Tigers should tear up his contract,” Smith posted on Twitter. “Worst signing by any club in the NRL era.”

The veteran caller than turned his attention on the Tigers for recruiting Leilua in the first place.

“Actually, the Tigers should be made to extend the Leilua deal by 12 months and play him in every game as punishment for thinking there was an upside in signing him,” he posted on Twitter.
