Health ministry receives $140K worth of Korean supplies for COVID-19 fight
The Ministry of Health and Medical services yesterday received medical and sanitation supplies valued at $140,000 to boost its fight against COVID-19. The South Korean Government through its development agency in Fiji, Korea International Co-operation Agency (KOICA) handed over this equipment to the Minister for Health and Medical services yesterday.
The assistance included seven mobile tents for fever clinics, portable washing stations for hand washing and hygiene and bio-safety cabinets that will protect health staff while conducting tests.
Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete said the Korean Government was exemplary in dealing with it COVID-19 cases and Fiji had learned a great deal with how it had contained its cases.
Dr Waqainabete acknowledged KOICA for the timely assistance that would be put to good use during the fight to contain COVID-19 in the country.
Korean Ambassador to Fiji, Cho Shin-hee, while handing over the equipment, said it was notable that Fiji’s response to COVID-19 had been recognised alongside Korea as exemplary in the world.
She acknowledged the Ministry of Health and Medical Services and the Fijian Government for its hard work and dedication in containing COVID-19 in Fiji.
“I believe that the Fijian Government will do a great job in preventing the spread of COVID-19 in Fiji,” she said.
She also stated that the Korean embassy will soon donate US$300,000 (FJ$647,496) worth of testing kits to Fiji.
