Here is what New Zealand thinks about Fiji’s plans as outlined by the New Zealand High Commissioner to Fiji Jonathan Curr:

We recognise and commend the success of Fiji in their successful management of COVID-19, and the need for travel to re-start the economy.

Australia and New Zealand’s

Prime Ministers have committed to introducing a trans-Tasman COVIDsafe travel zone as soon as it is safe to do so

We are also exploring opportunities to expand the concept to members of our broader Pacific family including Fiji, enabling travel between Australia, New Zealand and Pacific island countries. We will work with interested Pacific countries on parameters and arrangements to manage the risks New Zealand has close connections with the Pacific. We will be very mindful of this as we explore options for our border. However, it also remains imperative that we avoid the spread of COVID-19 within the region.
