Kumar expects to do more with less

Fiji Sun - - EXPLAINER - SHALVEEN CHAND Edited by Jonathan Bryce

It will be doing more with less, says Minister for Local Government, Housing and Community Development Premila Kumar. She made the reference to what she expects for her ministries when the National Budget is announced tonight.

Ms Kumar has ruled out an increase and knows that stringent controls and tightening of policies will have to be done if the Budget decreases.

Ms Kumar also said there would be no new capital works, but the focus would be on completing works that have started.

“We want to complete the Ba Stadium. We also want to complete the Lautoka Swimming Pool, we want to commence with the Savusavu Market which is at the moment on hold,” she said.

“We also want to get the Rakiraki Bus Station completed. So these are some of the projects that started and it needs to be completed. We have not put in any submission for new projects.”

The formalisation of Waidamudamu, Cuvu and the Ledrusasa informal settlements will continue. Ms Kumar expects chosen people to get lots by the end of the year.
