Call for free masks in Tahiti rejected

Pape’ete: French Polynesia’s Health Minister has rejected an opposition call to make masks available for free.

The opposition Tavini Huiraatira party said people are worried after the borders were opened and quarantine requirements dropped last week for travellers from Europe and the United States despite a worsening COVID-19 outbreak.

The Tavini said a box of 50 masks in a pharmacy cost US$50 (FJ$106.55) which meant each masks cost as much as two bread sticks.
