Taipei records hottest day since 1896

Taipei: Taipei has recorded its hottest day since the city’s weather sta­tion was founded in 1896, Tai­wan’s weather depart­ment said on Fri­day. The tem­per­a­ture rose to 39.7 de­grees Cel­sius in the city on Fri­day af­ter­noon, the weather depart­ment said. Due to the ef­fect of a Pa­cific high-pres­sure sys­tem and pre­vail­ing hot, dry south­west­erly winds, the whole is­land ex­pe­ri­enced hot con­di­tions.
