Although we won we played with 13 players for 57 minutes and 12 men three minutes before fulltime. We must do something and fix our indiscipline - Tui Saladoka
Namosi will play Nadroga in a double- header this Saturday after beating Tailevu 19-6 in their Skipper Cup Premiership match at Thomson Park, Navua yesterday. And Namosi needs to pull up their socks in the next few days if they want to win the Skipper Cup and Farebrother–Sullivan Trophy at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka.
This was after the team copped a record three red cards.
They had to play 13-men after two red cards were slapped on them 20 minutes into the match and then down to 12 players 3 minutes from the final whistle.
Paula Nayacakeli and Sakiusa Gavidi were the first to be sent to the bench in a match punctuated with temper and deliberate bad play.
Three minutes before fulltime Jone Naqisi was the third player to be red carded for a late tackle leaving 12 men on the paddock for Namosi.
Namosi Rugby Union president Tui Saladoka said the side need to pull up on their discipline because facing Nadroga would be a mammoth task. ”For us to match up against them we must improve our discipline,” Saladoka said.
”Although we won we played with 13 players for 57 minutes and 12 men three 3minutes before fulltime.
“We must do something about our discipline.
“We need to lift our preparation in the coming week but first we will address discipline.”
Tailevu kicked over two penalties from Ilimeleki Leiloma to lead 6-0. Leiloma had to abort the match after he was red-carded along with the Namosi duo Nayacakeli and Gavidi. Five minutes into the game Namosi halfback Peni Matawalu crossed over for a try to trail 6-5 at halftime. Matawalu is the younger brother of national rep Nikola.
Like a well-oiled machine, winger Vinia Halaisi ran amok bursting the Tailevu backline to score twice. Both his tries were converted for the 19-6 scoreline.
Tailevu coach Solo Nute said unnecessary mistakes proved costly for them.
“We’ve a new team but we need to learn from our mistakes and improve in our next game,”Nute said. Tailevu meet Lautoka at Churchill Park in round two this Saturday
