Four men, who allegedly tried to bury a 19-yearold farmer alive for allegedly informing Police about their marijuana farm, will appear at the High Court in Labasa on August 11.

Are Kakanu, Esala Dau, Maikeli Dawai and Bob John appeared before Magistrate Timoci Qalinauci at the Magistrates Court in Savusavu yesterday.

The four farmers are charged with one count of attempted murder and one count of criminal intimidation.

Police prosecutor Corporal Vignesh Prasad informed the court that the four allegedly tortured and tried to bury Mairewa Katalo alive because they accused him for sharing information to Police that led to a drug raid of their farm. They allegedly threatened to kill the victim by digging a hole and putting him inside with hands tied in a coconut plantation at Waisaganavuna Settlement in Cakaudrove on July 23.

They stopped what they were allegedly doing when Kakanu’s wife was seen entering the compound

The victim’s brother brought him to his home the next day. The accused are further remanded in custody.
