Food, Family, Fun Makes For Good Business At Suva’s Sunday Market

Vendors at the Suva’s Sunday market say the weekly, daylong event encourages them to be be more enterprising.

As Suva’s Bowling Club, home of the weekly Sunday market, filled with hundreds of people filtering through, most vendors reported a sell out by 1pm yesterday.

The market opens from 7am and closes at 7pm.

Each week brings with it a few new vendors, among the regular faces.

Event organiser and general manager of the Suva Bowling Club Mureen Lavaki said the Sunday market grows from strength to strength, bringing new commodities to the floor.

First timer

Leanne Heritage and her nieces travelled from Nausori to sell pre-loved goods at the Sunday market.

“It’s been a really good experience for a first time,” the Homey Kitchen enterpreneur said.

“We’ll use this experience to build on for a a better show at the next market day..

“It’s a safe space to bring the children.”

She said the ambience made her first time experience more bearable.

Meanwhile, Mrs Lavaki has called for a variety of goods to be sold at the Sunday market.

“Given that its sold out by midday, we need to make more and and assortment of what’s on sale,” she said.

The Sunday market day offers free entry where vendors do not pay for space.

“They just need to bring their tables and set up,” Mrs Lavaki said.
