The Vodafone Festival of the Friendly North Committee has elected its youngest president, Rajneel Maharaj.

At age 36, the Bank South Pacific customer service officer has been involved in the festival since 2010. Even though a date hasn’t been confirmed for the annual event, Mr Maharaj has assured that they would organise something for the northerners this year.

“The decision to have the same type of festival atmosphere would not be possible as we have COVID-19 restrictions in place, including curfew hours beginning at 11pm,” Mr Maharaj said.

“During the annual general meeting at Labasa Civic Centre last week, we discussed a lot of things because having the usual weeklong event at Subrail Park would be challenging.”

The oldest of two siblings, originally from Waiqele, Labasa, said the money generated from the festival would continue to be diverted to their ongoing biggest project, which is the construction of the multipurpose hall in Labasa. Meanwhile, Labasa Hospital’s laboratory technical officer Zaheen Ibrahim was elected as secretary and Telecom Fiji Limited’s accounts manager North Jagat Prasad as treasurer.
