Macuata Rugby launch today at Labasa’s Subrail Park
The Macuata Rugby Union will officially launch their club competition at Subrail Park, Labasa, today.
MRU secretary Ratu Tomasi Korovakaturaga said there would be 18 teams competing in the two pools. “The launching will be done by the Commissioner Northern Uraia Rainima,” Ratu Tomasi said.
“We are requesting teams to be on time as we have planned to have 10 matches played.”
He said the competition was expected to be completed on October 17.
Ratu Tomasi said this year they have new board members who have come in with new ideas in trying to move them forward.
“We have teams right from Namuka as our aim is to bring talented players from grassroots level. We have produced good players for the national team before and we can do much better.” The MRU has produced top rugby players like Emosi Tatawaqa, Joe Naikidi, Eroni Latianara, Manoa Rakoroi, Maikali Dimuri, Tevita Tukania, Jope Tuikabe, Filipo Daugunu, Kameli Soejima and an so on.
Ratu Tomasi said through the involvement of young players they believe they could contribute positively to the development of the province.
