Freight flights increase: Viljoen

National carrier Fiji Airways has increased its weekly freight flights to 10 a week.

Managing director and chief executive officer Andre Viljoen said the freight destinatio­ns included Auckland, Sydney, Los Angeles, Hong Kong and Port Vila.

Mr Viljoen said the airline also brought in 52 tons of medical supplies including vaccines, test kits and medicine and humanitari­an aid.

Fiji Airways has transporte­d 1205 tones of cargo to overseas markets from April 1 to June 30, this year.

The cargo consignmen­ts included fresh produce, garments, seafood and kava.

Mr Viljoen made the remarks during his presentati­on at the Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry business forum at Tanoa Internatio­nal Hotel.

As for domestic operations, flights were normal and would be ramped up if necessary, he said.
