Freight flights increase: Viljoen
National carrier Fiji Airways has increased its weekly freight flights to 10 a week.
Managing director and chief executive officer Andre Viljoen said the freight destinations included Auckland, Sydney, Los Angeles, Hong Kong and Port Vila.
Mr Viljoen said the airline also brought in 52 tons of medical supplies including vaccines, test kits and medicine and humanitarian aid.
Fiji Airways has transported 1205 tones of cargo to overseas markets from April 1 to June 30, this year.
The cargo consignments included fresh produce, garments, seafood and kava.
Mr Viljoen made the remarks during his presentation at the Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry business forum at Tanoa International Hotel.
As for domestic operations, flights were normal and would be ramped up if necessary, he said.
