The Lautoka Women’s rugby team beat Yasawa Marlins 2715 to record their second win in the Skipper Cup clash on Friday night.

In their first win, Lautoka upset defending champions Tailevu 2322 while the Marlins have suffered their second loss in the competitio­n.

What happened: Lautoka took the lead in the 27th minute with a try from first five-eighth Lavenia Cavuru with the conversion going over a 7-0 lead.

In the 32nd minute Yasawa winger Vilisi Vakaloloma scored their first try with the conversion missing, 7-5. Lautoka replied immediatel­y with a penalty try to regain the lead 14-5. In the 46th minute, Sesenieli Donu scored a try for Lautoka which extended their lead to 19-5.

Halftime: Yasawa 5-19 Lautoka Yasawa started strongly with two uncoverted tries to narrow the deficit to 19-15. Lautoka kept their cool to score an unconverte­d try and followed by a penalty for the 27-15 win.

Comment: Lautoka captain Karalaini Naisewa said: “We worked hard for this win and we are hoping to improve on our mistakes for the next game against Nadi.”
