May 13 Grand Pa­cific Ho­tel, Suva It’s Fiji’s an­swer to the Gram­mys and this year, the Fiji Per­form­ing Rights As­so­ci­a­tion Mu­sic Awards will stage its fourth an­nual event hon­our­ing cre­ativ­ity and orig­i­nal­ity in Fiji’s mu­sic in­dus­try. The event is backed by an­other mu­si­cal great, TABS In­vest­ment, the sup­pli­ers of the high value wood that is used to make Tay­lor Gui­tars. This is the gui­tar brand favoured by multi Grammy win­ner Tay­lor Swift. Close to 50 of Fiji’s best mu­si­cians vie for awards from ten cat­e­gories with most eyes on the Best Com­po­si­tion (or Best Song), Artist of the Year, Best New Artist, Most Pop­u­lar Mu­sic Video and Most Pop­u­lar Song awards. A new cat­e­gory, Gui­tar Player of the Year has also been in­tro­duced this year. Some of the front run­ners aim­ing to walk away with the awards in­clude pop­u­lar duo Nems and Talei, Elena Bar­avi­lala and new comer Drixs­tar.


The month of May sees the cul­mi­na­tion of the 2015/16 HSBC Sevens World Se­ries cal­en­dar with Paris and Lon­don host­ing the fi­nal two legs of the se­ries. Catch the reign­ing cham­pi­ons Fiji and favourites South Africa, Aus­tralia, New Zealand and Eng­land bat­tle for the cov­eted ti­tle.
