HIDEAWAY

Like a growing number of other Fijians who have spent decades abroad, the Bukshes have come home to invest in Fiji’s future – or as Imam Buksh put it “to give something back” to the land of his birth. The returns he has so far put in include a major building project and the establishment of a new business that provides employment for Fiji workers and adds to Fiji’s reputation as a tourism destination…as well as being a beaut new place for local families in search of safe, reasonably priced, attractive accommodation. It is called Bayview Cove and it is located on Nadi Bay at the end of Sonaisali road. Just at the moment the biggest challenge is to find it. The information pamphlet about Bayview Cove suggests you should ‘discover Nadi’s hidden Paradise’. Fiji is the sort of idyllic island location where a hidden Paradise is a not all that unusual. Bayview Cove, however, is just a little harder to discover for a first time visitor. If you are seeking directions to a place in Fiji, you are well advised to ask only taxi drivers, they mostly know where they are going. Other well-intentioned souls who know exactly where it is that you want are often not strong on coherent instructions. You could end up in Rakiraki instead of Lautoka if you aren’t careful. So I’ll tell you. Bayview Cove is in the area known as Sonaisali and coming from Nadi Airport it is about 30 minutes along Queens Road to the Sonaisali Road turn off on the right. There is a Bayview Cove sign on the right just before you get to the turn and on the corner is a handy shopping complex, usually busy. Continue almost to the end of the Sonaisali Road – if you spot the sea you’ve gone too far. Just before that there is a narrow but good sealed road to the right, leading past some newly built villas. Actually everything is new down here, it is a resort area just starting to boom. Keep going down the road alongside a waterway, follow the last bend to the right and then at the absolute end is indeed the Bayview Cove Resort. The location promises tranquillity, which it certainly delivers. Fortunately there is something else. Fiji resorts often genuinely boast of their friendliness. But the Bayview Cove owners are especially welcoming, they are delighted to share their enthusiasm for their piece of Paradise. Buksh was originally a Ba boy who made his way to New
