A fine example of defensive architecture of the years between 1300 and 1400 in the Gironde region: an age troubled by the Hundred Years War (1337-1453). Its walls protected the papal court of Clement V from 1308 to 1309 www.chateauvillandraut.fr

Mazères – Château Clémentin de Roquetaillade

Built in 1306, the structure is composed of two fortresses from the 11th and 14th centuries enclosed within common fortified walls. Its history is marked by two extensive restorations, particularly remarkable is the one accomplished by Viollet-le-duc in the 19th century (interior decoration, furnishings). The same family has owned the Château for 700 years! www.chateauroquetaillade.free.fr
