TOKYO PUMPS OUT HOSODA AND IWAI FOR FEST
THE TOKYO International Film Festival (TIFF) has that the work of two iconic directors: Mamoru Hosoda and Shuni Iwai, will be in focus at the 29th TIFF, running October 25-November 3, 2016. This year’s Animation Focus will put the spotlight on Mamoru Hosoda, the inventive director whose Summer Wars (09) and Wolf Children (12) were both international and local hits, and whose latest feature, The Boy and the Beast (15), became the highest-grossing local film at the Japanese box office in 2015. It was also distributed in nearly 50 territories overseas. For TIFF’S Japan Now section, the Director in Focus will be LIGHTNING Entertainment has announced the international market premiere of mixed martial arts (MMA) action movie Starring Alexander Nevsky Casper Van Dien
and Tia Carrere It is directed by, and co-stars Mark Dacascos
The film was released earlier this spring, theatrically, in Russia/cis, earning close to $1m. The next theatrical release is planned for the Philippines. “is a joyride for die-hard fans of the genre as well as all-action/thriller lovers,” Lightning Shuni Iwai, whose youth-focused vision has been dubbed the “Iwai Aesthetic.” This can be seen in films like (95), which put him on the world stage, or (01) and (04), or in his latest film, (16). Following a push to become more international, in the last two years, TIFF has launched new sections to showcase the best of Japanese filmmakers. The Japanese Classics section highlights masterpieces demmed ready to rediscover, while Japanese Cinema Splash, a competitive section, introduces new works by independent filmmakers.

Nevsky is an established movie star in his native Russia and three-time Mr. Universe bodybuilding champion.
