CHARLES S. COHEN, chairman and CEO of Cohen Media Group (CMG) has acquired all North American distribution and world sales rights outside of France, Germany and China, to an untitled documentary currently in production from filmmaker Agnès Varda and the artist known as JR. The film will be completed this year. The untitled project focuses on “faces, encounters, huge images related to people” and, principally, an unlikely friendship between 33-year-old JR and 88-year-old Varda. “As my life draws to a close, I find myself wanting to see ever-more faces, to film or photograph them, to keep them in images if not in my memory,” Varda said. “JR, with his imagination and talent, gives me the opportunity to create with him new ways to share images.“Charles S. Cohen said: “Agnès Varda is a visionary director. Her curiosity about the world she lives in has fed her amazing work for more than 60 years, and she finds yet more to say and reveal in this unique work that will captivate all who experience it.” The acquisition was brokered by CMG executive vice-president John Kochman and producer Rosalie Varda, on behalf of Varda’s production company Cine Tamaris and JR’S production company Social Animals.
