GREATER PARIS - - [ Escape] S'évader - By Patricia Valicenti

Batobus, a shuttle boat making stops like a bus, is a great way to wend your way through Paris while taking in the great monuments and buildings lining the Seine all the while offering an original way to travel around town. Created in 1989 during the bicentenary celebrations for the French Revolution, the sleek boat service makes ten stops in the city's leading neighbourhoods with seven stops on the Left Bank and three on the Right Bank.

The shuttle boats, which offer a panoramic view have ports of call at the Eiffel Tower, the Invalides/ Pont Alexandre III, the Musée d'orsay, Saint-germain-des-prés, Notre Dame, Jardin des Plantes (the Botanical Gardens), Hôtel de Ville (City Hall), the Louvre, the Champs-elysées and Beaugrenelle. The multi-lingual staff of ticket agents, sailors and captains welcomes passengers on board and visitor information is available on board and at the stops and you can even transport a bicycle on board to further explore the city when going ashore.

Vendôme, Trocadéro, Bastille, Rivoli, Odéon and Dauphine, evoking places in Paris, are the names of the six trimarans in the Batobus fleet, each with a capacity for 200 passengers, while the company's two launch boats holding up to 110 people have been baptized with the names of French celebrities Jean Gabin and Yves Montand.

A wonderful way to (re)discover the French capital with your partner, friends or family for some sightseeing, visiting or shopping.

The boats operate seven days a week and run every 20 minutes in the high season from 10am until 9:30pm and every 25 minutes in the low season from 10am to 5pm, do note however that all of these times are subject to change.
