Mass sexual ha­rass­ment, a new Arab cultu­ral prac­tice?

The events in Ger­ma­ny, Swe­den, Aus­tria or Fin­land are lin­ked to the “Ta­har­rush Ga­mea”. It des­cribes an Arab mo­dus ope­ran­di as a group sexual ha­rass­ment in crowds which can be com­pa­red to events in Cai­ro’s Tah­rir Square (at the time of Egyp­tian re­vo­lu­tion in 2011) as the jour­na­list of CBS La­ra Lo­gan re­por­ted, vic­tim of this new crimes against wo­men. The mea­ning of the “Ta­har­rush Ga­mea” is a “mi­so­gy­nous ideo­lo­gy in which wo­men are pu­ni­shed for being in pu­blic”(2) . Since 2005, Egyp­tian wo­men re­por­ted cases of being ha­ras­sed du­ring ral­lies and in 2010 the film Girls Cai­ro (Y. Nasr Al­lâh).re­por­ted al­so those crimes.
