FROM 21 SEPTEMBER 2017 TO 29 JANUARY 2018 The Grand Palais celebrates the centenary of the birth of one of the 2Oth century’s most reputed photographers and explores his manyfaceted, ultra-modern work. The world’s greatest creative people – Picasso, Yves Saint Laurent, Audrey Hepburn, Alfred Hitchcock, Salvador Dali, Alvin Ailey – all posed before the lens of this American master. A fashion photographer who had a fondness for the still life genre, he shot the covers of 150 Vogue magazines over a 50-year period. His signature trait was to use the same neutral backdrop, so as to capture the personality of his models. Before admiring his work for Vogue, the retrospective starts with his photos of New York and the war in Europe. It then exhibits 240 photos spanning his career. Teenage selfie-freaks will relish the work of this ingenious portaitrist. Grand Palais, 3, Avenue du Général Eisenhower, 75008 Paris, grandpalais.fr 1.
