Wicker tenderness

Discovered at the Maison & Objet trade fair in January, Bermbach Handcrafted, a young German manufacturer, makes beautiful rattan beds. The company grew out of founders Alexander and Marie Luise’s yearning to find a pretty cradle for their first child, one rather like the hand-woven wickerwork cribs of yesteryear. They came up with the idea of producing new ones that would meet all their expectations: light and airy, aesthetically round, but sturdy as well. Today, the couple work with a renowned Indonesian manufacturer. Each bed is expertly handmade by a rattan craftsman and requires several days to be completed. Three models are currently available, including the delicately woven “Lola” crib, shown below, perched atop a filigree metal stand, with tiny feet made in oiled oak and firmly laced leather straps to provide additional stability. KBA certified ecological mattresses in coconut fibre and virgin wool, organic cotton cot liners, changing mats and canopies complete the range.
